5 reasons I’m upgrading to an iPhone 15 Pro Max from an iPhone 14 Pro

by Norman Scott

Recently, I expressed my lack of interest in the iPhone 15 series and my decision to hold onto my iPhone 14 Pro for another year. However, after the official reveal of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro, I had a change of heart. I have decided to let go of my current iPhone in favor of an iPhone 15 Pro Max. Here are the reasons behind my decision.

First and foremost, the camera capabilities of the iPhone 14 Pro are just not up to par. As someone who is always on the go, exploring new places and capturing photos, I find the zoom on my current device quite disappointing. Seeing my friends with Pixel and Galaxy phones boasting about their superior zoom capabilities makes me feel like I’m missing out on a proper camera system. The iPhone 15 Pro Max, with its tetraprism lens and 5x optical zoom, promises to deliver a much better camera performance than its predecessor.

Another reason that pushed me towards the iPhone 15 Pro Max is its titanium build and the inclusion of an Action button. I have recently started using my iPhone 14 Pro without a case, as I have never dropped a phone in my life. However, the stainless steel frame is a magnet for fingerprints, which takes away from the phone’s premium look. The titanium frame of the iPhone 15 Pro Max is resistant to fingerprints, and its rounded edges make it more comfortable to hold. Additionally, the new Action button can be customized, and I plan to map it as a camera launcher for quick access to time-sensitive shots.

The adoption of a USB-C port in the iPhone 15 series is also a significant factor in my decision. I rely heavily on MagSafe charging and wireless data transfer methods. However, there are times when I need to rely on wired charging, especially when I’m in a rush and need to quickly top up my battery. With the USB-C port, I no longer have to carry around a dedicated cable or leave one on my desk, as I already use a USB-C charger for my other devices.

I have always preferred smaller to medium-sized smartphones and have never used a phone larger than 6.1 inches as my daily driver. However, with advancements in technology and the popularity of video content, I am curious to try out a larger display long-term. The iPhone 15 Pro Max offers a bigger screen and a longer battery life, which are appealing features.

Considering the resale value of my iPhone 14 Pro also played a role in my decision. Upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro Max won’t cost me a significant amount, as Apple products retain their value for longer periods compared to other brands. This makes it easier for me to justify the purchase and opt for the latest and best iPhone model available.

However, I am still anticipating the iPhone 16 series. Rumors suggest that the tetraprism lens will be available on the smaller Pro variant next year. If I find the size of the iPhone 15 Pro Max challenging to manage, I may consider switching to the 6.1-inch model next year. Additionally, Apple might introduce solid-state buttons with the upcoming release, which could be another exciting change.

In conclusion, the official reveal of the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro convinced me to upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The improved camera capabilities, titanium build with rounded edges, USB-C port adoption, larger display, and reasonable resale value were the deciding factors. Nevertheless, I am still looking forward to the iPhone 16 series and any exciting changes that Apple may have in store.
