Baldur’s Gate 3 developer shaves cat after player backlash

The latest hotfix patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 has caused quite a stir among the game’s fanbase. The patch, which was released yesterday, brought some changes to the appearance of a beloved NPC cat named His Majesty.

When the game was initially released, players were delighted to find His Majesty, a Sphynx cat, in the Last Light Inn. Sphynx cats are known for their hairless appearance, so it was quite a surprise when it was revealed that His Majesty’s lack of fur was actually a bug. It turned out that His Majesty accidentally had the same character model as another Sphynx cat in the game called Steelclaw.

In response to this issue, the game’s developer, Larian Studios, released a patch to fix the error. The patch notes stated, “Updated the visuals of His Majesty, who previously looked like Steelclaw. His Majesty’s appearance now befits his name and nature.” This update gave His Majesty the fur that was originally intended for him.

However, this change did not sit well with some players who had grown accustomed to His Majesty’s hairless appearance. They had come to love the unique and distinctive look of the hairless cat. Fans took to social media to express their dissatisfaction with the new fur on His Majesty.

Taking note of the feedback and fan pressure, Larian Studios decided to release another hotfix patch to address the issue. In a tweet, the studio announced, “Hotfix #8 is now live for Baldur’s Gate 3. This update addresses several crashes and issues, including your party members transferring every important item to you upon dismissal. More importantly, we shaved His Majesty.”

With this latest patch, His Majesty has returned to his hairless appearance, much to the delight of fans. To differentiate between His Majesty and Steelclaw, Larian Studios also made a small change to Steelclaw’s character model by adjusting the color of his eyes.

The response to this hotfix has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans expressing their gratitude and excitement for “the most important patch in gaming history.” Twitter users thanked Larian Studios for listening to their feedback and restoring His Majesty’s unique look.

The full patch notes for this hotfix include various bug fixes and improvements, including addressing crashes, fixing reaction popups, and restoring the hair color and horns of another character named Raphael. Shaving His Majesty and adjusting Steelclaw’s eye color were among the changes specific to the cat characters.

Overall, this hotfix patch demonstrates the responsiveness of Larian Studios to its player community. By taking fans’ feedback into account and making adjustments accordingly, the developers have shown their commitment to creating an enjoyable gaming experience for Baldur’s Gate 3 players.
