October 2023: What to Expect from Apple

September was a big month for Apple, with the release of the iPhone 15 lineup, Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2, and updates to iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and macOS. However, as we enter October, the excitement may taper off slightly as we wait for the new macOS release and any potential new hardware announcements. Let’s take a closer look at what we can expect from Apple this month.

New Hardware Releases

One of the rumored releases for October was the introduction of M3-based Macs. This could have included an updated iMac and MacBook Air with M3 processors. However, recent rumors have cast doubt on this, with analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stating that he doesn’t expect any iPads or Macs with M3 chips this year. So, it remains to be seen if Apple will surprise us with any new hardware releases this month.

iPad mini 7

One product that is still rumored to be released this fall is the 7th-generation iPad mini. It is expected to come with an updated processor, but not much else in terms of major new features. If this release does happen, it’s likely that it will be a low-key announcement directly on Apple’s website.

Apps and Software Updates

With the major yearly software releases already out, including macOS Sonoma, we can now expect more point-release updates. These updates are typically substantial, as Apple adds features that were promised at WWDC but didn’t make it into the initial release. The x.1 versions of all the operating systems entered beta at the end of September and will likely see a public release in October. Beta testing on the x.2 releases may also start this month.

For iOS/iPadOS 17.1, we can expect some new Apple Music features, continued AirDrop transfers over the internet, and other minor improvements. More features could be added before the final release. As for macOS Sonoma 14.1, the “favorite” feature will come to Apple Music, and there will be fixes for Remote Widgets.

In terms of services, let’s take a look at what’s coming to Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade this month.

Apple TV+ will continue to release new shows, series, and movies. Here are a few that we can expect in October:

1. Lessons in Chemistry: Set in the 1950s, this series follows a woman who dreams of being a scientist in a world that expects women to be homemakers. She gets a job hosting a TV cooking show and uses it as a platform to teach science to housewives. Release date: October 13.

2. The Pigeon Tunnel: This series tells the story of former British spy David Cornwell, who wrote under the pen name John le Carré. It explores his famous espionage novels like “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold” and “Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.” Release date: October 20.

3. The Enfield Poltergeist: A chilling true story of the world’s most famous poltergeist case, narrated through original audio recordings made inside the house as the events unfolded. Release date: October 27.

As for Apple Arcade, new games are typically released on Fridays. While not every Friday is marked by a new game or significant update, there are usually several projects listed in the Coming Soon section. Keep an eye out for updates on Apple Arcade games in October.

Overall, while October may not bring the same level of excitement as September, Apple still has some surprises up its sleeve. Whether it’s new hardware announcements, software updates, or exciting content on Apple TV+ and Apple Arcade, Apple fans have much to look forward to this month.
