The Made By Google event for October 2023 revealed three new devices – the Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and Pixel Watch 2. However, it was the Best Take mode that stole the show. Best Take is a feature that uses a series of photos to create a single blended image, allowing users to create better headshots by combining elements from different images. This automated Photoshop feature is sure to be a game changer for Instagram lovers and others.
Best Take works in combination with other software tricks offered by Google, such as the Magic Editor, which can remove elements from photos, move them around, and change the lighting of the entire shot. These new features require powerful hardware, which is where the new Pixel phones come in.
The Pixel 8 Pro is the top-of-the-line model, featuring the Google Tensor G3 chipset, 12GB of RAM, and storage options ranging from 128GB to 1TB. It also has a Super Actua OLED display with a variable refresh rate of 1Hz to 120Hz. The camera setup includes a 50MP main lens, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a 48MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom. The Pixel 8 Pro also has a temperature sensor, allowing users to measure the temperature of objects around them and even take their own temperature with FDA approval.
The Pixel 8 is the more affordable alternative, but still offers powerful features. It has a 6.2-inch Actua OLED display with a variable refresh rate of 60Hz to 120Hz. It is equipped with the same Google Tensor G3 processor, 8GB of RAM, and storage options of 128GB or 256GB. The camera setup includes a 50MP main lens and a 12MP ultrawide lens.
Both the Pixel 8 Pro and Pixel 8 are available for preorder starting October 4 and will go on sale on October 12. The Pixel 8 Pro starts at $999, while the Pixel 8 starts at a more affordable price point. Overall, the new Pixel devices and the Best Take mode are sure to impress smartphone and technology lovers alike.
