Google may have more hardware surprises in store for its upcoming event on October 4th. In addition to the highly anticipated Pixel 8 and Pixel Watch 2, it appears that the Pixel Buds Pro might also be getting a design refresh to better align with the new Pixel phones.
New renders from OnLeaks have revealed two new colors for the Pixel Buds Pro – Bay Blue and Porcelain. These colors happen to be the same ones expected for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Google has hinted at some earbud news in the event teaser, and upon closer inspection, it seems to be a wireless earbud in the image.
However, it appears that the color change might be the only notable difference. The Pixel Buds Pro themselves are expected to remain unchanged. This may disappoint some, as the most recent Pixel Buds Pro were an improvement over previous models but still had room for improvement. Reviews noted that the fit was not snug and the price was a bit high, despite the excellent sound quality, battery life, and noise cancellation.
While it may seem early for a refresh, considering that the Pixel Buds Pro launched in May of this year, Google has a history of releasing minor updates to match the colors of its other devices. This was seen with the Sky Blue Pixel Buds A, which matched the “Sea” color of the Pixel 7a.
Rumors have circulated that Google might offer a free pair of Pixel Buds Pro with every Pixel 8 pre-order, and Pixel 8 Pro pre-orders could include a free Pixel Watch 2. The precise color options for the watch are currently unknown. Given that the existing Pixel Buds Pro colors somewhat align with the rumored colors of the Pixel phones, it makes sense for Google to try and create a matching set. This would allow early adopters to receive a free gift that complements their new phone.
More information will be revealed on Wednesday at the Made by Google event. In the meantime, you can read reviews of the Pixel Buds Pro and stay updated on the latest news about the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro.
