Apple has announced that the highly anticipated iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 updates will be available to iPhone and iPad users on September 18. These updates, which have been in beta testing since June, were unveiled at the WWDC 2023 event and come packed with exciting new features.
One of the standout features introduced in iOS 17 is “Contact Posters.” This feature allows users to personalize their profile appearance during interactions with other iPhone users. With Contact Posters, users can add a profile picture and customize typography, font colors, and other elements to create a unique and personalized profile.
For FaceTime audio and video calls, Apple has introduced voicemail support for the first time. This means that users can now leave messages when calling someone, and recipients can also leave voicemails when they miss a call. Additionally, iOS 17 introduces 3D Reactions for FaceTime, including hearts, balloons, fireworks, laser beams, and rain, which add a touch of fun and interactivity to video calls.
Another notable enhancement in iOS 17 is the new “NameDrop” feature for AirDrop. This feature simplifies the process of sharing contact details with other iPhone or Apple Watch users. By bringing two devices close to each other, users can easily share their contact information. Additionally, SharePlay, a feature that allows users to enjoy shared video, music, and games, can now be activated by holding two iPhones in proximity.
iOS 17 also introduces “StandBy,” a feature that activates when the iPhone is placed horizontally on a charger. This feature displays a custom interface with easily accessible widgets for time, calendar, alarms, and more. Additionally, Home Screen widgets in iOS 17 are now fully interactive, providing users with a more immersive experience.
For iPad users, iPadOS 17 brings several exciting updates as well. This includes a new Lock Screen experience, new drawing tools when using Apple Pencil, and support for external webcams, among other features.
Both iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 will be available for download on Monday, September 18. iOS 17 is compatible with iPhone XR and later models, while iPadOS 17 requires an iPad with an A10 Bionic chip or later.
Apple continues to innovate and deliver new features with each software update, and iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 are no exception. With exciting features like Contact Posters, voicemail support for FaceTime, and enhancements to AirDrop and Home Screen widgets, users can look forward to an enhanced and personalized user experience on their Apple devices.
