Justice for melee weapons: a Cyberpunk 2077 modder has rectified the game’s biggest oversight for stealth play

Cyberpunk 2077 has been a highly anticipated and widely discussed game since its release. From its immersive open-world setting to its rich storytelling, it has captured the attention of players around the world. However, there have been some aspects of the game that players have found lacking, particularly when it comes to stealth gameplay.

One player shared their experience of a thrilling mission in the badlands of Cyberpunk 2077. They described the excitement of sneaking into a warehouse fortress and eliminating enemies with precision and cunning. However, their excitement quickly turned to frustration when they accidentally threw a grenade instead of using a stealth kill option. This led to a realization that the game’s stealth kills are surprisingly limited.

Despite the game offering several perks dedicated to stealth gameplay, the only way to perform a stealth takedown is by grabbing an enemy from behind. This allows the player to either snap their neck or choke them unconscious, but there are no other options or variations in the animations. It seems odd that the game provides cyberware like the monowire, a high-tech garrote, without the ability to utilize it for stealth kills.

Fortunately, a mod called “Stealth Finishers” has addressed this limitation. The mod introduces stealth takedowns with both melee weapons and cyberware. Now, players can perform a stealth kill with a melee weapon when sneaking up behind an enemy, providing a more satisfying and varied experience. The mod also allows players to continue using the existing option of grappling enemies if they prefer.

While there are some limitations to the mod, such as increased noise generated by melee kills compared to choking out enemies, these trade-offs add an element of risk and balance to the gameplay. Additionally, not all blunt/non-lethal weapons have been tested with the mod, but it is suggested that the default choke be used for those players who prefer a non-lethal approach.

To install the mod, players will need to have Cyber Engine Tweaks, RED4ext, and redscript installed beforehand. These are core modding tools that have recently become compatible with the latest Cyberpunk 2077 patch. With the compatibility of these tools, players can expect to see many more mods updated in the coming weeks.

This mod offers a much-needed enhancement to the stealth gameplay in Cyberpunk 2077. By expanding the options for stealth kills, it provides players with a deeper and more immersive experience. Whether players choose to utilize melee weapons or cyberware, they can now enjoy the thrill of executing stealth takedowns with greater variety. The mod is a valuable addition to the game and a testament to the creativity and dedication of the Cyberpunk 2077 modding community.
