Apple has officially released macOS Sonoma, the latest version of its operating system for Mac computers. With macOS Sonoma, users can expect a range of new features and improvements that enhance both productivity and entertainment.

One of the key highlights of macOS Sonoma is the introduction of desktop widgets. Users can now place widgets directly on their desktop, allowing for quick and easy access to important information and tasks. These widgets are interactive, meaning users can complete reminders, control media playback, access home controls, and perform various tasks directly from the widget itself. Additionally, users can customize their Mac with widgets from their iPhone through the magic of Continuity.

Another notable addition in macOS Sonoma is the collection of stunning new screen savers. These screen savers feature slow-motion videos of beautiful locations around the world, such as the skyline of Hong Kong, the sandstone buttes of Monument Valley in Arizona, and the rolling hills of Sonoma in Northern California. After login, the screen savers seamlessly transition to become the desktop wallpaper, creating a visually captivating experience.

In terms of productivity, macOS Sonoma introduces enhanced video conferencing features. These features allow users to present and share their work more effectively within any video conferencing app. The Presenter Overlay displays users in front of the content they are sharing, while Reactions enable users to share how they feel with simple hand gestures that trigger fun, frame-filling 3D effects like balloons, confetti, hearts, and more.

Safari, the default web browser on Mac, also receives significant updates in macOS Sonoma. The introduction of profiles allows users to keep their browsing separate between different topics like work, school, and more, enabling them to quickly switch between them. Private Browsing receives improved protection against advanced tracking techniques, with windows becoming locked when not in use and known trackers being blocked from loading. Additionally, Safari users can now add any website to the Dock, complete with a simplified toolbar and notifications for an app-like experience.

Gaming enthusiasts will also appreciate the improvements made in macOS Sonoma. With the power of Apple silicon, Mac users can now enjoy demanding games with great performance, long battery life, and breathtaking visuals. The introduction of Game Mode further enhances the gaming experience by providing more consistent frame rates and reducing input and audio latency when using wireless game controllers and AirPods.

In addition to these major updates, macOS Sonoma brings a host of smaller improvements across various apps. These include the ability to view PDFs and scans of presentations, assignments, and research papers directly within the Notes app, as well as the option to create links between notes for better idea organization. Users can now also share a set of passwords with a group, with sharing done securely through iCloud Keychain. Messages gains search filters and swipe-to-reply features, while allowing for the creation and syncing of Live Stickers across macOS, iOS, and iPadOS. Reminders now offers intelligent grocery lists and a new column view for easier organization, and the Keyboard receives updates to autocorrect and dictation capabilities.

macOS Sonoma is available as a free software update starting today. It’s worth noting that some features may not be available in all regions, languages, or on all devices. For more information and a detailed list of features, users can visit Apple’s website at apple.com/macos/sonoma.
