Apple has announced that the highly anticipated macOS Sonoma will be released on Tuesday, September 26. This free software update brings a host of new features and changes to the Mac, making it even more versatile and user-friendly. Here are five of the standout features in macOS Sonoma:

1. Desktop Widgets: macOS Sonoma introduces interactive widgets to the desktop, similar to those found on the iPhone. These widgets can even be used from your iPhone apps without having to install the corresponding Mac apps. They provide quick access to information and allow you to take actions directly from the widget.

2. Game Mode: For gamers, macOS Sonoma introduces a new Game Mode that prioritizes CPU and GPU performance on Apple silicon Macs. This ensures a smoother gaming experience with consistent frame rates. Game Mode also reduces audio latency for AirPods and input latency for select game controllers connected via Bluetooth.

3. Web Apps in Dock: Now, any website can be added to the Dock as a web app for easy access. To create a web app, simply load the website in Safari, open the File menu, and select Add to Dock. Web apps offer a simplified toolbar and support push notifications, making it even more convenient to use your favorite websites.

4. New Screen Savers and Wallpapers: macOS Sonoma introduces new Apple TV-like aerial screen savers that feature breathtaking slow-motion videos of places around the world. Each screen saver can transition to a matching desktop wallpaper, allowing you to customize your Mac with stunning visuals.

5. Safari Profiles: The latest version of Safari in macOS Sonoma introduces support for profiles, which lets you keep your browsing separate for different aspects of your life. You can have separate profiles for work, personal, and more, each with their own browsing history, cookies, extensions, Tab Groups, and favorites.

These are just a few of the exciting new features in macOS Sonoma. The update also includes enhancements to Messages, Keyboard, Accessibility, and more. For a complete overview of everything new in macOS Sonoma, check out the full release notes provided by Apple.
