Mortal Kombat 1 Kombat Pack replaces Johnny Cage Kameo, release date windows revealed for DLC characters

NetherRealm Studios has recently released new information about Mortal Kombat 1’s first Kombat Pack, and it seems that there have been some changes to the lineup. In a trailer featuring Omni-Man, a character from Invincible, Johnny Cage’s spot in the DLC pack has been given to someone else – Janey Cage.

Alongside the trailer, NetherRealm Studios also provided a press release that included release window information. Tremor, who is coming with Omni-Man, is expected to be released in November. The other DLC fighters in Kombat Pack 1 have general launch windows, with Quan Chi and Peacemaker scheduled for Winter 2023/2024, Ermac and Homelander for Spring 2024, and Takeda Takahashi for Summer 2024. Although some of them have the same timeframe, they will likely not be released simultaneously.

So who is Janey Cage? Warning: spoilers for Mortal Kombat 1’s Story Mode ahead. Janey Cage appears in the final chapter of the game’s cinematic story as a parallel timeline fighter that the player encounters. From what we can gather, she seems to be a female version of Johnny Cage, but NetherRealm Studios might provide more details and flesh out her character now that she is a part of the game as an assist.

This isn’t the first time NetherRealm Studios has changed its DLC plans. In Mortal Kombat 11, there was a similar situation with Evil Dead’s Ash Williams seemingly confirmed for the game before being replaced by Batman’s Joker. It remains unclear whether the change involving Janey Cage was a decision made after the initial announcement or if the developers had planned her inclusion from the beginning but wanted to avoid spoiling any story twists.

Currently, there is no release window provided for Janey Cage or the other Kameo fighters (Ferra, Khameleon, and Mavado) who will be coming after Tremor. However, they will likely be released alongside the main DLC fighters.

Fans of Mortal Kombat and Invincible have a lot to look forward to with the introduction of Omni-Man and the reshuffling of the Kombat Pack 1 lineup. With NetherRealm Studios known for delivering exciting DLC content, players can expect unique and thrilling gameplay experiences as they dive into the world of Mortal Kombat 1.
