Nikon Corporation has announced the release of a new lens, the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena, designed for full-frame/FX-format mirrorless cameras. The lens is part of Nikon’s S-Line, which signifies lenses that achieve outstanding optical performance. It takes advantage of the Z mount system’s large-diameter mount, enabling the lens to deliver beautiful bokeh and exceptional sharpness.
One of the primary features of the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena is its ability to produce well-rounded bokeh throughout the entire frame, even at maximum aperture. This allows photographers to capture stunning portraits and landscapes with a three-dimensional feel. The lens also minimizes color fringing, ensuring accurate and vibrant bokeh.
The lens’s large maximum aperture of f/1.8 ensures an abundance of peripheral light, resulting in bright and transparent images from edge to edge. It offers superior sharpness and clarity, making it ideal for capturing the delicate textures of hair and skin, as well as rendering night landscapes with precision.
The NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena features a multi-focusing system that utilizes stepping motors (STMs) for fast, accurate, and quiet autofocus drive. This system enables precise focusing even at maximum aperture, making it suitable for both still images and video recording. Additionally, the lens incorporates Nikon’s Meso Amorphous Coat and ARNEO Coat to reduce reflections, ghosts, and flares.
In terms of design, the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena shares the same engraved “Plena” logo as the NIKKOR Z 58mm f/0.95 S Noct lens. The name “Plena” reflects the lens’s ability to deliver beautiful bokeh while retaining exceptional sharpness. Nikon hopes that the lens will be cherished by users for many years to come.
The lens is equipped with two lens Fn buttons, offering customizable functions. Its 82-mm filter-attachment size allows users to experiment with various lens filters. It also boasts dust- and drip-resistant performance, making it suitable for various shooting conditions.
Nikon continues to prioritize outstanding optical performance and aims to meet the evolving needs of photographers. The release of the NIKKOR Z 135mm f/1.8 S Plena signifies Nikon’s commitment to expanding possibilities for imaging expression and contributing to the development of the imaging culture.
