Dread Delusion Unveils Clockwork Kingdom in Latest Update

This year has been groundbreaking for RPGs, with numerous releases captivating players. However, amidst this stellar lineup, my anticipation for updates to Dread Delusion, an indie RPG set on cursed asteroids, remains insatiable. Recently, as part of the Realms Deep 2023 showcase, DreadXP presented a glimpse of the game’s upcoming Clockwork Kingdom expansion, set to be released in the fall.

Dread Delusion is the go-to game for those yearning for the peculiarities reminiscent of Morrowind or the thought-provoking philosophical dilemmas found in Planescape: Torment. Yet, it goes beyond being a mere imitation of these iconic titles. Dread Delusion has captivated players with its intricate, focused open-world design, where stat investments impact not only combat but also exploration and discovery.

While Dread Delusion allowed players to break into the isolated island of the Clockwork Kingdom with speed-boosting magic and determination, there was nothing to do there—until now. In an earlier version of Dread Delusion featured on the 2020 Haunted PS1 Demo Disc, the Clockwork Kingdom and its thematic Clockwork God played a significant role. However, the game’s story and setting have since undergone radical shifts.

The Clockwork Kingdom expansion promises an entirely new major settlement for players to explore. Steampunk-inspired enemies are to be expected, as well as some rather unexpected four-armed flesh abominations. Previous hub areas in Dread Delusion presented morally ambiguous choices akin to those found in Fallout, often altering the game’s entire setting. Therefore, players wait eagerly to witness the ethical dilemmas the Clockwork Kingdom has in store.

The Clockwork Kingdom update has a general release window slated for this fall. In the meantime, players can enjoy the early access areas of the game on Steam. Additionally, developer Lovely Hellplace has teased that Dread Delusion will eventually take players to the ruined surface of the world, which the inhabitants of the asteroids fled in the distant past.

As RPG enthusiasts continue to revel in the bountiful offerings of this year, Dread Delusion stands out as a promising and refreshing addition to the genre. With its unique blend of compelling storytelling, intricate gameplay mechanics, and immersive world-building, Dread Delusion’s Clockwork Kingdom update is sure to captivate players and leave them yearning for more.
