Apple’s new iPhone 15 Pro has been making waves in the gaming community since its announcement. The device boasts hardware capable of running console-quality games, a surprising feature considering it is a smartphone. During the reveal event, Apple showcased popular titles such as Resident Evil Village, Resident Evil 4, Death Stranding, and Assassin’s Creed Mirage running with advanced graphical features like real-time ray tracing. Now, the first of these titles, Resident Evil Village, has an official release date of October 30, 2023.

Not only will Resident Evil Village be playable on the iPhone 15 Pro, but it will also be available on other Apple devices such as the iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPad Air, and iPad Pro with the Apple silicon M1 chip or later. This broad compatibility allows a wider range of players to experience the game’s thrills and horrors.

The release date announcement came during a presentation by Capcom at the Tokyo Game Show 2023. Alongside the date, Capcom confirmed the price of the game, with the base game priced at JPY ¥4,990 and the Winters Expansion DLC priced at JPY ¥2000. Translated to USD, this is estimated to be around $29.99 for the base game and $14.99 for the expansion, similar to the pricing of the MacOS version.

It remains unclear whether there will be a cross-purchase option, where buying one version of the game grants access to both the Mac and iPhone 15 versions. Some publishers offer this option for iPhone and iPad games, providing added convenience for players who own multiple Apple devices.

To further entice players, Capcom announced that a free trial version of the game will include the opening moments. This free trial will serve as both a tech demo to showcase the capabilities of the iPhone 15 Pro and an opportunity for players to experience the game before making a purchase.

In addition to Resident Evil Village, Capcom also revealed that the iOS version of Resident Evil 4, another highly anticipated title, is still scheduled for release in 2023. The expansion pack, Separate Ways, will accompany Resident Evil 4. The prices for these titles are set at JPY ¥7,990 and JPY ¥1,000 respectively.

The release of Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 on the iPhone 15 Pro will undoubtedly be fascinating to witness. These games are known for their stunning graphics on current-generation gaming consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. When Resident Evil Village was tested on Apple’s previous MacBook Pro model, it ran remarkably well even while running on battery power. This demonstrates that Apple’s hardware architecture is more than capable of handling modern game engines with advanced features.

However, the atmosphere of a survival horror game like Resident Evil in a portable format raises new considerations. How well the game translates to a mobile experience remains to be seen. With Apple’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of mobile gaming, it will be interesting to see how Resident Evil Village and other console-quality games perform on the iPhone 15 Pro and other compatible Apple devices.
