Apple Acknowledges Discoloration Issue on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max

The much-anticipated iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max have finally hit the market, but they are not without their share of issues. Reports have emerged of discoloration appearing on the new titanium frames of these handsets, a problem that Apple has now officially acknowledged.

In an updated support document, Apple states that “for iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, the oil from your skin might temporarily alter the color of the outside band.” While this may cause some concern among users, the solution is simple. Apple advises wiping the frame of the handset with a “soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth” to restore the original look. So, there is no need to panic. However, investing in a case may be a wise decision to prevent such issues in the future.

The use of titanium with a brushed effect, instead of stainless steel, is one of the main reasons why fingerprints show up prominently on the new iPhones. Apple’s switch to titanium not only adds a unique touch to the design but also makes the devices lighter and more resistant to corrosion. Although the titanium frames are slightly thicker than their predecessors, this trade-off seems worth it for many users.

In our iPhone 15 Pro Max review, we praised the “exquisite” build quality of the device, describing it as a “pleasure to hold.” The issue of fingerprints wasn’t particularly noticeable during our testing. However, the signs of gradual wear and tear may vary from person to person and may not bother everyone.

It’s worth noting that the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models stick with the usual aluminum frame, so users shouldn’t experience any discoloration issues with those devices. All four of the new iPhone 15 handsets feature glass fronts and backs, providing a sleek and modern aesthetic.

When it comes to cleaning your iPhone, the process remains the same. It is recommended to use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth and avoid using cleaning products or compressed air. Additionally, it’s crucial to prevent moisture from entering any of the phone’s openings.

While some users may find the discoloration issue frustrating, Apple’s acknowledgment and suggested solution provide reassurance. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max still offer exceptional build quality, and with proper care, users can continue to enjoy their devices without any major setbacks.
