Leaks, rumors, and what we know so far

The iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are currently the top-of-the-line smartphones from Apple. They boast powerful features such as the iOS 17 operating system and the A17 Pro chip, making them highly capable and efficient devices. However, even with these impressive features, Apple fans are already eagerly awaiting the release of the next flagship models, the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Thanks to leaks and rumors from reliable sources, we have some potential details about what these upcoming phones might offer.

According to reports, the iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to launch around mid-September 2024, assuming there are no delays or schedule changes from Apple. As for pricing, the base iPhone 16 Pro could start at $999, while the larger 16 Pro Max could begin at $1,199. Apple will likely offer higher-priced configurations with more storage options, as is customary for their flagship devices.

In terms of design, Apple typically makes significant design changes to their iPhones every three years or so. Since the iPhone 15 Pro models just adopted a titanium frame with rounded edges, it’s unlikely that the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a different material or a drastically different design. One notable change could be the inclusion of an Action button, like its predecessor. However, rumors suggest that Apple might switch to a capacitive button instead of a mechanical one. There are also talks about a new capacitive Capture button being added, which could be situated next to the power button, while the Action button remains above the volume buttons.

As for the display, we anticipate that it will largely remain the same as the iPhone 15 Pro models, including the Dynamic Island and most of its specifications. However, there could be a slight increase in size, with the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max potentially featuring 6.3 and 6.9-inch displays, respectively. This would be a 0.2-inch increase for both devices.

In terms of camera upgrades, one possibility is an improvement to the ultrawide lens, increasing its megapixel count from 12MP to 48MP. This change was previously introduced to the main lens with the iPhone 14 Pro. Additionally, it’s rumored that the tetraprism lens, currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, could be added to the smaller iPhone 16 Pro. This would enable users of the smaller Pro model to benefit from the 5x optical and 25x digital zoom capabilities.

In terms of performance, the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max are expected to introduce the A18 Pro chip, succeeding the A17 Pro chip found in the iPhone 15 Pro models. Although we do not have specific details about the capabilities and efficiency of the A18 Pro chip, it’s likely to be manufactured using the 3nm process. There are also rumors of improved connectivity, with Wi-Fi 7 support potentially being included in the iPhone 16 Pro models.

It’s essential to note that with the release of the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max several months away, these details are subject to change as more leaks and information become available. Nonetheless, it appears that the upcoming flagship phones will bring some welcome changes, such as the addition of a new Capture button, larger displays, enhanced Wi-Fi connectivity, a sharper ultrawide lens, and more. However, for those who can’t wait another year, the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max remain the best smartphones Apple has to offer for now.
