Apple’s stock Notes app may not have received much attention during the recent WWDC keynote, but it gained a powerful new feature in iOS 17: the ability to link notes and connect them together. This new functionality allows users to easily jump from one idea to another within the app.
To create links between notes, users can simply long press on a space in any note and select the “Add Link” option from the pop-up menu. From there, they can search for another note by its title or enter a URL. Users also have the option to create an alternative title for the link. Once the link is created, it appears as hyperlink-style underlined text within the note. Tapping on the link takes users directly to the linked note.
Another quick way to add links is by typing two greater-than symbols (>>) into a note. This invokes a list of the user’s six most recently modified notes, and tapping on one instantly adds a link to that note.
This linking feature is not limited to iOS 17; it is also available in iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma. This means that users can now create collections of interlinked notes, similar to a wiki-style format. This feature allows users to organize their thoughts and discover new connections and associations between ideas.
iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and macOS Sonoma are currently available in developer beta versions and will be officially released in the fall.
