Google Announces Wear OS 4 Support for Pixel Watch 2, Original Pixel Watch to Follow

Google has made an announcement regarding the upcoming Wear OS 4, stating that it will be available on the Pixel Watch. However, while the Pixel Watch 2 will come with the new operating system right from the start, users of the original Pixel Watch will have to wait a little longer for the update to arrive.

In a blog post on the Android Developers Blog, Google revealed that Wear OS 4, based on Android 13, will be compatible with the Pixel Watch. However, the company did not provide a specific date for when the update will roll out to the first-generation smartwatch. Users will have to stay patient for the official release.

Wear OS 4 brings a range of new features and enhancements, including improved tile animations, smoother data transfers, and optimization for better performance. According to Google, Wear OS 4 is several versions ahead of the current operating system on Pixel Watches, showcasing significant progress in this latest iteration.

Although the Pixel Watch 2 will be the first smartwatch equipped with Wear OS 4, it is worth noting that Samsung’s Galaxy Watch 6 was actually the first wearable device to receive the upgraded operating system. This was followed by the Galaxy Watch 5 series and the Galaxy Watch 4 series. Google also confirmed that developers can continue using Samsung Galaxy Watches to test their apps on Wear OS 4.

Nevertheless, Google emphasized that the Pixel Watch 2 is the only smartwatch that fully supports all of Wear OS 4’s capabilities. Pre-orders for the device have already commenced, and it will be available for purchase on the Google Store starting from October 12.

With Wear OS 4, Google aims to enhance the functionality and user experience of its smartwatches. The anticipation for the update is high, especially for Pixel Watch owners, who can expect an improved and more efficient wearable once the update arrives.

Overall, the introduction of Wear OS 4 to the Pixel Watch 2 and subsequent rollout to the original Pixel Watch demonstrates Google’s commitment to continuously improving its smartwatch ecosystem. Users can look forward to the new features and enhancements that come with the latest operating system, ushering in a more seamless and enjoyable user experience on their wearables.
